The Royal Dragoon Guards - Adventures in the Third Succession War

Moonfall
The Royal Dragoons Return to Geiss

DropShip HMDS Sir John Churchill
Inbound to Geiss (Royal IIb)
Royal, Draconis March, Federated Suns
12 July 2915

The Royal Dragoons arrive in-system and make for Geiss, with Dr. Spencer travelling aboard the Indomitable to care for Major Hirsch and the rest of the wounded. Hunter Dencourt, Sonya Eversole and Eben Doyle were met by Captain Harrington and transferred to the Tristan’s Pride for a high-speed run to Geiss, while the rest of Easy Company headed moonward on the Churchill. An explosion is detected on the JumpShip Pride of the Skies, causing members of Easy Company to board the Churchill’s shuttle and head back to the ship to investigate. Once aboard, they find evidence of internal sabotage. Survivors are located in the emergency spaces, and are rescued and returned to the shuttle. The Easy Company members aboard realize the bombs that were planted were emplaced in legitimate-looking equipment casings that look just like ones taken aboard the Churchill by the Pride of the Skies’ engineer- who they immediately assume is the saboteur, and who is now abord the Churchill, burning toward Geiss. Meanwhile, on the Tristan’s Pride, it is revealed that the crew aboard are under the command of hijackers with their eye on capturing Captain Harrington, Captain Dencourt and his command crew. Lieutenant Eversole is separated from Captain Dencourt and Sergeant Major Doyle. While Dencourt and Doyle go for the bridge, Eversole encounters a Lyran officer and engages in a sword duel as the officer attempts to make his escape. Eversole removes his left arm with her blade, and takes him prisoner. Dencourt and Doyle manage to retake the bridge, and turn the Tristan’s Pride toward Geiss. After arriving on Geiss, the Dragoons find that Counts Dencourt and Eversole, along with other notables, have been captured and are being held at a transport tube maintenance facility. Corporal MacStevenson leads a daring raid to rescue the nobles, taking Iancu Keurtig and Declan Raines with him. The rescue is successful, and the planning begins for the assault on Royal – until a message is recieved from Major Mainwaring for a rendezvous.

St. Marcou’s Pass, Misery
Draconis March, Federated Suns
28 MAY 2915

Easy Company is spending their first night in a MACE unit. The sound of the wind is clearly audible inside the shelter, and the blizzard temperatures tax the heating units in the small buildings. Making contact with the Mad Jack , the crew find that the main body of the Relief Force has lifted off and is heading South. A lull in the weather is detected, and Bvt Cpt Hunter Dencourt plans on using the window to relocate Easy Company per Major General Baden-Powell’s new orders to the now-captured spaceport. Easy Company begins breaking down the MACE units and preparing to bug out. When the Mad Jack arrives, Easy Company packs up as quickly as possible, and the ship makes for low orbit. The vessel receives a distress call from 2nd Battalion, and reports this to Baden-Powell’s headquarters. They receive orders to break off any and all communication with Major Hirsch and his 2nd Battalion. Dencourt is troubled by these orders, and is unsure of how to proceed, unwilling to leave Hirsch without support. Radio contact is made with headquarters, and General Baden-Powell tells Dencourt that 2BN has gone off on “some damn fool venture” and gotten themselves in trouble. He needs all support at Laerdal immediately, and orders Dencourt to immediately rendezvous at Laerdal. Sergeant Major Doyle argues that Hirsch and his 2BN is in trouble because of a plan proposed by Dencourt and Sonya Eversole- and therefore the relief or rescue of 2BN is Easy Company’s responsibility. Upon approach to Ruine, the Mad Jack takes some reconnaissance photos showing that the truce negotiations between 2BN and the Kuritan forces was attacked as it occurred, wounding or killing the command personnel from both sides and heavily damaging the city of Ruine. The appearances are that the damage was done by attack runs perpetrated by a pair of assault aerodynes.

The ship is then subjected to ground fire from retreating survivors from the battle at Ruine. Hunter Dencourt raises the Kuritans and manages to talk the surviving officer, Tai-i Abe Kyouka, into accepting the return of the Kurita prisoners being held by Easy Company in exchange for information on what happened at Ruine. Tai-i Abe warily agrees, and meets Dencourt on the field in her Marauder , telling him that two Avenger -class DropShips attacked during the negotiations, doing massive damage to both sides and apparently killing the senior officers for both factions. Before ending the conference, Tai-i Abe dismounts and removes ner neurohlemet to speak to Dencourt privately, handing him a recording of the radar data from her unit’s Jagermech showing the attackers and their course. During this time Sonya Eversole is overseeing the offloading of the Kurita prisoners and their ‘Mechs. Once clear, the Mad Jack boosts for Ruine, and Tai-i Abe’s survivors continue West toward their comrades.

During the rest of the flight in, Easy Company makes contact with Leftenant Diego Carranzo, acting as commander of second battalion. Carranzo reports on the uncanny timing of the attack, which took place just as Major Hirsch and the Kurita Sho-sa met dismounted between the rows of their assembled command lances as was protocol for such a truce and parlay. The attacks scattered the nearby personnel, destroyed ’Mechs, and killed most of the dismounted officers. The ensuing battle was haphazard, scarcely controlled, and ended in the withdrawal of 2BN into the city proper, and the Kuritans falling back to the river to regroup. The Kuritan survivors subsequently headed West.

Arriving at Ruine, Easy Company find that the damage is extensive along the outskirts of the city, and that the civilian hospital is overflowing with patients and has exiled the military casualties – Davion and Kurita alike – to a temporary tent structure outside the hospital. The military casualties are being tended to by hospital volunteers as the administrators blame the Relief Column for the direct attack and are treating all the combatants as less of an immediate concern than their civilian population. Claudia Spencer and the Dencourt infantry medics go to work immediately, finding that Major Hirsch is critically wounded and of his three company commanders, one is dead and two wounded beyond hope of return to duty in the immediate future. Doctor Spencer performs surgery to save Major Hirsch’s life, and the members of the Royal Detachment are called upon to give blood to save the Major and several of his wounded MechWarriors.

During this time, Dragoon Iancu Keurtig realizes that the uncanny appearance of the attack force where and when the most damage could be done meant there could be an informant. He enlisted the help of Dragoon Olivia Wilton-Doyle and Sergeant Major Eben Doyle. They quickly found and triangulated the position of a radio transmitter. Assembling a team of Easy Company personnel, they entered the city to find the Ministry of Utilities building fortified by what looked like scratch militia. The Easy Company team made short work of a number of militiamen and captured Minister Abelard Gellar, who had been sending information to Major General Baden-Powell to keep him apprised of the situation. Gellar had not known that the Kuritan forces had compromised his outdated encryption codes and both sides were getting his play-by-play. CSM Doyle and his team returned Gellar as a prisoner to Captain Dencourt and the unit staff.

Sonya Eversole made contact with the HHDS Indomitable , the DropShip responsible for transporting Hirsch’s Battalion, and asked them to come in for pickup. Indomitable had been awaiting the signal, and moved in. With so many wounded unable to be moved, Captain Dencourt transferred assumed command of Hirsch’s Battalion and transferred his HQ reluctantly to Indomitable , as she was able to carry more ’Mechs than Mad Jack . Dencourt then attempted to make contact ComStar, and when successful learned the shocking news that the Capellan Confederation had invaded the Federated Suns, the Captain-General of the Free Worlds League had died, and most shockingly that Prince Joseph Davion II had been killed in action on the Kurita front. Faced with these chilling revelations, Easy Company must ponder what to do next.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
